SECoND SKiN: MoNSTER

"Second Skin: MONSTER,” is the LIVE exploration of actualizing The self in the concept of image, perception, the butterfly effect, mirroring, generating and world-building. The deep deconstruction of unwarranted trauma through creating ancestral pivots within space by a series of task-based movements, choreographies, and space-oriented rituals. Working with Movement, physical theater, testimony, sound, light, and space- a manifestation of several versions of ourselves exist across infinity- as autonomous beings.

Lacrima, unfold

the experimental creation of a world that embraces isolation, mending of broken spirit, and sadness. It processes the reasons we choose to hurt others, transmuting the molecules of tear drops to physical structure of the human body. A mustard yellow blanket is used as a metaphor for an invaluable human organ, the heart.

SECoND SKiN: IMPoSTER

"Second Skin: Imposter,” is the exploration of the second self. through movement research, we experimented with duality, the passing of time, and the physicality of introduction through our surfaced presentations of self. Working with physical theater, a manifest of characters reflect passions and desires that we rarely express in our primary self… parts of us that we tend to only access in moments of fear or loathing.

SAMARITAN

to the concept of A/D/O’s “Urban Imprint” by studio ini, I considered the relativity of the everyday person in many mini-mega cities and their constant interactions weaving in and out of several physical structures throughout the days. The anxiety and pressure to physically move through mostly quadrilateral designs (specifically in New York City,) to attain the notion of destination made me think more of the transitional time of maneuvering around and through other human beings. The idea of SAMARITAN, reminds me that the impression of great action, mood, and acknowledgement of others’ spaces and situations, are as malleable as the weight we put in our stride towards tasked based living. Metaphorically speaking, the weight impressed upon the installation to shape our headspace.

This, coupled with the idea of how abnormal it is to live this way, has helped me to visually explore alien ways of living. The installation has inspired me to think of a compact and specific terrain. I thought to myself, isn’t it striking that we, as urban dwellers, go months or even years without placing our feet on natural Earth? That the development of our existence has everything to deal with solid figures that are constructed against nature and it’s fractals. The installation provides a perfect balance of both… rigid in form and organic in design. Nevertheless, the intimacy of the moving parts of both subject and installation warrants the challenge of understanding other languages of space in relation to other avenues of communication. To be a samaritanis to have honored the idea of community seeking spaces to manifest organically. Every interaction and impression leads to the next day of urban development.

Devoured Ruin

the term “hypernormilisation” is taken from the argument that for many decades, everyone had known the system was failing. as No one could imagine any alternative, politicians and citizens were resigned to maintaining a pretense of a functioning society. over time, this delusion became a self fulfilling prophecy and the “fakeness” was accepted by everyone as real, an effect that alexei Yurchak termed, “hypernormilisation.”

Elysium

“Elysium” is the name given by the ancient Greeks to the Afterlife. Admission was reserved for mortals related to Gods, those chosen by the Gods, and the righteous and heroic. The class of 2015 at LaGuardia High School’s Dance Department has researched their connection with spirituality through self-exploration on the term, "GOD” and what the afterlife means through a universal lense.

Inspired by alvin toffler’s novel, “future shock,” published in 1970 and Plato’s “allegory of the cave” (514a–520a), based off of the effect of education and the lack of its ‘usefulness’ in our nature.
